The New Milton Neighbourhood Plan was submitted and underwent 'Regulation 16' public consultation which closed on 21 October 2019.

The Neighbourhood Plan was subject to an examination under the appointed examiner (Mr David Hogger).

The Examiner concluded that subject to the policy modifications to the submitted plan, as set out in the appendix to the report, the plan met the basic conditions. The Examiner recommended that the plan, once modified, proceed to referendum on the basis that it met all the relevant legal requirements.

Following meetings of the Cabinet and Full Council on 5 February 2020 and 24 February 2020 respectively, the New Milton Neighbourhood Plan proceeded to a local referendum held on Thursday 6 May 2021.

The local community in New Milton was asked whether it supported the Neighbourhood Plan. 87.9% of the ballots cast voted 'Yes' (on a turn out of 35.7%).

As the majority of those who voted (i.e. over 50%) are in favour of the draft Neighbourhood Plan, then the Plan must be 'made' (adopted) by both the District Council and the National Park Authority within 8 weeks of the Referendum date. We formally decided to adopt the plan on 21 June 2021.

This neighbourhood plan forms part of development plan for the New Milton Parish and is a material consideration of weight for decision making purposes.
