Leader of the council

The Leader of the Council is elected every four years, immediately following district council elections. The current Leader is Cllr Jill Cleary.

Roles and responsibilities

The Leader is Chairman of the Cabinet and appoints members to the Cabinet and holds the Leader and Corporate Affairs Portfolio on the Cabinet.

Main roles and responsibilities include:

leading the council in the identification and implementation of its vision, values and strategic objectives
providing visible political leadership in the preparation and implementation of council policies, strategies, budgets and service delivery
developing and implementing the council's corporate plan and organisational strategy.
