Pay Council Tax and applying for a refund

There are several methods by which you can pay your Council Tax.

You can pay your Council Tax in monthly instalments, or in a lump sum when you get your bill. We will assume you will pay monthly unless you tell us otherwise.

Direct Debit

Direct Debit is the easiest way to pay your Council Tax. It is simple, quick, safe and you don't need to remember to pay.

You can spread your payments over ten monthly instalments, from April to January, or twelve monthly instalments, April to March. You have a choice of three payment dates on, 1, 15 or 23 of each month.

To make changes to an existing direct debit, for example to change your bank account details, or to change the collection date, please use the online form below.

Pay online

You can make payments for your Council Tax online.

You will need your Council Tax account number, which is an nine-digit number starting with 16. This can be found on the top right hand side of your Council Tax bill. You will also need to provide your bank details.

Pay by phone

You can make payments for your Council Tax over the phone, using your debit or credit card.

You will need your Council Tax account number, which is an nine-digit number starting with 16. This can be found on the top right hand side of your Council Tax bill.

This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Pay by banking

You can arrange to make payments for Council Tax via your bank or building society. These can offer various methods, including:

  • standing order
  • telephone banking
  • online banking
  • paying in person at a branch of your bank or building society.

You will need your Council Tax account number, which is an nine-digit number starting with 16. This can be found on the top right hand side of your Council Tax bill.

You will also need to provide the council's bank account details, which is where you will send your payments. Use the details below when paying your Council Tax.
