Residents invited to shape the future of Lymington and Pennington

17 April 2025

We are inviting residents of Lymington and Pennington to have their say on a draft neighbourhood plan for the area.

The neighbourhood plan will enable local communities to have more influence on development in their area, such as setting planning policies that direct where new homes, shops, and offices are built. The plan can also help determine what new buildings look like, guide how infrastructure is provided, and provide tools that help people plan for development that aligns with their local needs.

Residents can comment on these documents online from Friday 18 April until 5pm on Friday 30 May 2025 by visiting our Neighbourhood Plan consultation webpage.

Alternatively, comments may be submitted by email to policyandplans@nfdc.gov.uk

Cllr Derek Tipp, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economy, said: "We welcome views from residents in Lymington and Pennington. Their thoughts will help us to establish whether the policies in the draft neighbourhood plan suitably address local priorities.

"The plan will guide developments to meet the needs of the local area. The input of residents will help identify where local needs are being met and where they are being overlooked."

Lymington and Pennington Town Council started work on its neighbourhood plan in 2015, which has included a round of public consultation to help shape the final draft plan. The next step is a six-week consultation on the final draft neighbourhood plan.

All of the comments received will be considered by an independent Examiner appointed by the planning authorities. If the Plan is supported by the Examiner, the final stage would be to hold a local referendum where the local community in Lymington and Pennington will be asked whether they support the Neighbourhood Plan.
