Totton Town centre framework masterplan
Our regeneration project for Totton town centre will progress to masterplan stage over the next 12 months, with the appointment of consultants to support the design process.
Key areas of focus for the Totton regeneration include improving access and connectivity, transforming underutilised brownfield sites, and providing improved public spaces.
This latest stage follows work in 2022 on a community engagement exercise to explore ways in which Totton town centre could be improved. The subsequent report was endorsed by Cabinet in March 2023, which agreed to a series of actions, including further engagement with key partners, the preparation of a plan to guide the regeneration of Totton and a number of small scale 'quick wins' to potentially be implemented in advance of more substantive work.
Over the past two years, the council and its partners have progressed this work, including the setting up of the Totton Partnership, the funding of a number of small-scale projects and now the appointment of consultants to prepare a masterplan for the town centre.
Cllr Derek Tipp, Portfolio Holder for Economy and Planning, said,
"The Totton Town Centre Framework Masterplan aims to co-design an improved, vibrant town centre in collaboration with the local community and a team of experts.
"Ultimately the project seeks to support Totton to better fulfil its role as an attractive centre for the Waterside and its communities, benefiting from town and country characteristics and drawing upon relationships with the wider New Forest."
The project will be overseen by NFDC and the Totton Partnership, and will be supported by AR Urbanism, an urban design practice. They will be supported by Urban Delivery, to address project viability and deliverability, and Feria Urbanism, who will lead community engagement efforts to ensure local voices are at the heart of the proposals.
The next stage will be setting up a panel of local residents to provide feedback and guidance on emerging ideas. Details on how to apply for panel membership will be available shortly.
The Totton Partnership is an established collaboration of local organisations and statutory bodies with an active interest in the regeneration and economic growth of Totton.
