One year of garden waste wheeled bin service
27 March 2025
We are marking one year of our wheeled bin garden waste collection service.
Since April 2024, we have been collecting garden waste fortnightly using 240 litre wheeled bins - replacing their previous bag service. Customers can now renew their service, and residents are able to sign up all year round for 12 months of garden waste collections.
Councillor Geoffrey Blunden, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, said: "The wheeled bin garden waste service has been a success over the past year, with over 8,000 tonnes of garden waste composted and over 25,000 residents subscribing to the scheme.
"The bins offer a convenient and efficient way for residents to dispose of their garden waste. The contents, including grass cuttings, hedge clippings and more, are recycled using a composting process.
"Building on this success, we are continuing to modernise how we collect waste by introducing wheeled bins for general waste and recycling, and food waste caddies across the district from June 2025. Residents will have received information about this in the post and can find out more on our website."
Colin and Ruth, residents and garden waste customers, said: "The service is really convenient for us. It's great that we can add garden waste to our bin and it's collected from our drive, saving us a trip to the tip."
Residents can renew or sign up for the garden waste collection service on our website.
Our new waste service is being rolled out in 3 area phases, starting this summer. Different areas of the district will start at different times.
