Balanced budget to sustain essential services approved

25 February 2025

We have approved our budget for 2025/26, ensuring continued investment in essential services.

NFDC Leader Cllr Jill Cleary, said:

"Because of our prudent and sensible approach to financial management, we are able to produce a balanced budget that continues to invest in the services that we deliver for our residents."

The budget setting includes £8 million for modernising the waste collection service, aiming to reduce waste and increase recycling.

£13.5 million will be spent on maintaining existing council housing, improving energy efficiency and upgrading kitchens, bathrooms, doors, windows, and boilers.

£45 million is set aside for building new homes over the next three years, and the new budget allows for enhanced community grant programmes, including increased individual councillor grants, supporting local initiatives and projects.

The budget also includes CIL funds allocated to community assets and infrastructure improvements, benefiting town centres, coastal destinations, open spaces, community halls, sports halls, footpaths and highways across the district.

In concluding, Cllr Cleary said:

"The fully-funded and balanced Housing Revenue Account and General Fund Budgets both remain ambitious, but are achievable.  They are well thought through and considered, and enable us to prioritise what we can reasonably deliver on areas that will make the biggest impact to the largest number of our residents."
