Launching our air quality strategy

5 February 2025

We have taken a proactive step to improve public health and the environment with our draft Air Quality Strategy.

The forward-looking plan, considered by our Cabinet (5 February 2025), aims to build on the district's ongoing air quality work and further reduce emissions, beyond the government-set air quality objectives, through targeted action.

Key priorities in the plan include addressing health inequalities, tackling pollution from wood burning and road traffic, and raising public awareness of the steps they can take to contribute to improving air quality.

Councillor Dan Poole, Portfolio Holder for Community, Safety and Wellbeing, said: "Clean air is essential for the health and wellbeing of our residents and visitors. This strategy shows our commitment to creating a healthier, greener future for everyone in the New Forest by working effectively with partners to achieve targeted improvements in local air quality."

We will collaborate with local stakeholders, including the New Forest National Park Authority, to implement the strategy and are seeking approval to go out for public consultation on the draft strategy in March.
