Survey shows continued high satisfaction and safety levels in New Forest

5 September 2024

Survey results from recent community engagement events show high levels of resident satisfaction and safety in the New Forest. This year, 98.7% of respondents reported being "very satisfied" or "satisfied" with living in the New Forest.

The survey, which was conducted by us, was completed by 455 residents at 7 engagement events held across the district during the spring and summer. These events, which take place every year, gave residents the chance to share their views on living conditions, crime, and safety.

This year, a new survey question asked residents: "How safe do you feel outside in your local area?" Results showed that 97.3% of participants feel "very safe" or "fairly safe" during the day, and 84.8% feel the same at night.

At the events, the council also offered practical advice on crime prevention and discussed how the council and partners of Safer New Forest work as a collective to keep the New Forest a low crime area. Local police also attended the events assisting with free bike marking provided by us. 119 residents benefited from the service with registration on the National Bike Register Database.

Cllr Dan Poole, Portfolio Holder for Community, Safety, and Wellbeing, said: "The positive feedback from these events indicates that residents feel safe and satisfied with life in the New Forest. We will carefully review the findings of the survey with our partners, helping to adopt and implement improvements for the wider community.  Our focus will be on using this feedback to make meaningful changes and continue engaging with residents to understand their needs."
