Council services over Christmas and New Year

Contacting us

Our customer services office and phone lines will be closed from Friday 23 December at 4.45pm. Social media channels will not be monitored. The office will re-open on Thursday 29 December at 8.45am. 

During this period, if the matter is not urgent, you can email us on customer.services@nfdc.gov.uk 

You can also report any non-urgent matters and your reports will be attended to when the office re-opens.

We will also be closed on Monday 2 January 2023. Normal service will resume from Tuesday 3 January 2023.

Emergencies

In the event of an emergency with a risk to life, for example flood or fire, call 999 immediately.

For any other urgent issues and emergencies, call our out of hours team on 023 8028 5250 or 07771 259098. 

Recycling and rubbish

Black and clear sacks

If your normal collection day would be Monday 26 December 2022, your revised collection day is Monday 2 January 2023. All other collection days for black and clear sacks will stay the same as usual.

Glass box

If your normal collection day would be Monday 26 December 2022, your revised collection day is Saturday 31 December 2022. All other collection days for glass will stay the same as usual.

Garden waste

Garden waste collections will not take place from Monday 26 December to Friday 6 January 2023. Garden waste collections will resume as usual from Monday 9 January 2023. 

Christmas tree recycling

You can drop off your real Christmas tree at one of 11 sites across the district, and we'll recycle it. The drop-off sites will be open from Saturday 31 December 2022 to Sunday 15 January 2023. Please remove all tree decorations, leave your tree in a designated bay and please place the tree as far back as you can get it in the bay where possible. More details will be added to our recycling and rubbish web pages soon.

Information offices

Our information offices will be closed from 4pm on Friday 23 December.

Parking clocks

Our 2023 parking clocks (season tickets) will be on sale from 1 December 2022.  To get your 2023 parking clock before January, please place your order online before 16 December.  

Housing maintenance

Housing maintenance including the housing support hub will be closed Monday 26, Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 December as well as Monday 2 January.

We will continue to maintain essential emergency and urgent repairs throughout this period which can be reported by calling 023 8028 5250.

Repair classifications are set out below:

Emergency: 3 hours

This is to make a situation safe or perform temporary repairs. This work is necessary to prevent danger to life or extensive damage to property, or if the problem will have an adverse effect on a medical need.

Urgent: 24 hours

This is to prevent suffering undue inconvenience or further damage to property. Urgent repairs include:

  • loss of hot water (between 31 October and 1 May)
  • loss of heating (between 31 October and 1 May)
  • defective light fitting to kitchen, bathroom or stairway
  • replacement toilet pan, where only one toilet exists
  • restore flush to toilet
  • defective external door locks.

You can report non-urgent repairs, however we advise there maybe a delay in dealing with your request on our return to the offices on Tuesday 3 January 2023 dependent on demand. Emails relating to repairs, rent or tenancy queries can be sent to housing.supporthub@nfdc.gov.uk and we will however endeavour to respond/action all requests as soon as possible.

Housing and homelessness

For emergency homelessness cases, please contact our out of hours team on 023 8028 5250 or 07771 259098. 

For routine and non-emergency enquiries, email homeless@nfdc.gov.uk. You can refer yourself or someone else who is at risk of being homeless online. These enquiries and applications will be processed from Tuesday 3 January.

Appletree Careline

Our Appletree Careline alarm service will be operating as usual during the Christmas period.

Cemeteries

Cemeteries will remain open as usual.

There will be no interments between Friday 23 December and Tuesday 3 January. The cemeteries office will be closed between Christmas and New Year.  

Coastal services

For any urgent beach hut issues or coastal incidents between Saturday 24 December and Monday 2 January, please contact our out of hours service on 023 8028 5250 or 07771 259098. 

General enquiries sent to coastal.team@nfdc.gov.uk will be responded to from Tuesday 3 January.

Council Tax

When our information offices are closed you can pay your Council Tax in the following ways:

If you are unable to pay using any of these ways then you can pay in person from Tuesday 3 January.

Any enquiries emailed to counciltax@nfdc.gov.uk will be responded to from Tuesday 3 January.
