Freedom of Information Act 2000
The purpose of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 is to ensure greater openness in central and local government and other public bodies. The Act created new rights of access to information held by public bodies.
It requires a public authority to produce a Publication Scheme, ensure the scheme is kept up to date and to publish information in accordance with the scheme.
The Act also creates a right of access to recorded information not made routinely available in its Publication Scheme. This is known as an FOI request.
Local Government Transparency Code
