New food waste collections
Once your new waste collections start, we will collect your food waste every week.
Households will get a brown outdoor food waste caddy (23 litre) and a grey indoor food waste caddy (5 litre).
If you live in a flat, a property which shares communal bins, or we have assessed your property as unsuitable for wheelie bins, the waste containers you use for the new service may be different.
If this applies to your property, we will write to you with details before the changes are due in your area.
What you can put in your food waste caddy
Examples of food waste you can put in your food waste caddy include:
- plate scrapings
- fruit and vegetable peelings
- raw and cooked meat and fish
- meat and fish bones
- eggshells
- tea bags
- pet food
- fallen fruit
Please do not put these items in your food waste caddy:
- plastic packaging like pots, tubs, trays, and film
- liquids, such as cooking oil, fats and milk
How to use the food waste caddies
Before your new waste collections are due to start, we will send you a leaflet explaining how to use your food waste caddies.
This will include what food waste you can recycle, and suggestions on how to line your indoor food waste caddy. You will receive this leaflet with your food waste caddy delivery.
The grey indoor food waste caddy is for you to store food waste in your kitchen.
When it's time for your weekly food waste collection or your grey indoor food waste caddy is full, transfer food waste to your brown outdoor food waste caddy. If you're sharing communal food waste bins for food waste collections, transfer food waste to your communal food waste bin.
Before your new waste collections are due, we will write to you confirming which waste containers you will use for your food waste collections.
In the meantime, find out What your bins and food waste caddies will look like.
When we will collect your food waste
Before your new waste collections are due, we will write to you confirming your collection days and start date.
What will happen to your food waste
After we collect your food waste, it will go to an anaerobic digestion facility to create fertiliser and renewable energy.
