Polling districts and places review 2024
We are undertaking a review of the polling districts and polling places within the district in accordance with the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013 and supporting regulations.
The review must be concluded by Friday 31 January 2025.
On this page:
Background of the review
In 2022, The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) reviewed the district and parish wards in the New Forest resulting in some boundary changes and a decrease in the number of district wards from 34 to 26.
These new wards and polling station alterations came into effect for the May 2023 local elections.
The 2024 review will assess the impact of these changes and any recommendation for further alteration.

Definitions of polling districts, places, and stations
A polling district is a geographical area created by the sub-division of a parliamentary constituency for the purposes of a UK Parliamentary election.
A polling place is the building or area in which the Returning Officer will allocate a polling station.
The polling place should be designated so that the polling station is within easy reach of all electors from across the polling district.
A polling station is the room or area within the polling place where voting takes place. Unlike polling districts and polling places, which are fixed by the local authority, polling stations are selected by the relevant Returning Officer for the election.
