Waste Strategy 2022 to 2027

In summer 2022, our Waste Strategy 2022 to 2027 was approved.

The strategy details how we will reduce waste and improve recycling over the next few years. This includes introducing a new waste collection service for the New Forest.

Our plan for your new waste collection service

Since the Waste Strategy 2022 to 2027 was approved, there have been some changes to our initial plan for a new waste collection service.

We are currently due to introduce a new waste collection service in phases across the district, from 2025 to 2026.

Changes made to our initial plan for a new waste collection service

Since the Waste Strategy 2022 to 2027 was approved, we have made the following changes to our plan for a new waste collection service:

  • we will be providing a 240 litre wheelie bin for recycling, instead of an 180 litre wheelie bin
  • we will not be providing a separate bag for paper and card, this will go in the recycling wheelie bin
  • glass will still be collected every four weeks, using the same container you use now
  • food waste collections, and alternate week collections for recycling and rubbish using wheelie bins, will be introduced in phases across the district from 2025 to 2026
  • we will let residents know when we can collect more recyclable items, once more is known about plans for improved recycling facilities in Hampshire, managed by Hampshire County Council

Why our plan has changed

In November 2023, we received a long awaited update from the government on their plans for a simpler approach to waste nationally. To view the government's update, visit GOV.UK.

Following the government's update, we needed to review our plan and timeline for a new waste collection service.

Hampshire County Council are currently reviewing their plans for improved recycling facilities in Hampshire, which they manage. Once more is known about this, we will review when we can collect more recyclable items.
