Information about the Waste Strategy 2022 to 2027

In summer 2022, the Waste Strategy 2022 to 2027 was approved, which details our plans to reduce waste and improve recycling. It includes plans for new waste and recycling services for the district.

In November 2023, we received a long awaited update from the government on their plans for a simpler approach to waste nationally. To view the government's update, visit GOV.UK.

Following the government's update, we reviewed our plan and timeline for changes to recycling and rubbish collections in the New Forest.

Changes made to our initial plan published in the Waste Strategy 2022 to 2027

Changes made to our initial plan published in the Waste Strategy 2022 to 2027 include:

  • we will be providing a 240 litre wheeled bin for recycling, instead of an 180 litre wheeled bin
  • everything we collect for recycling now will go in the recycling wheeled bin, we will not be providing a separate bag for paper and card
  • glass will still be collected monthly using the same container residents use now, we will review this when more is known about plans for new recycling facilities in the county
