Bird Aware Solent
The recreational mitigation programme takes account of works by others to provide a fully integrated mitigation strategy, including:
Bird Aware Solent
Partnership of local councils, government organisations and charities to promote protection of birds at coastal sites and Special Protection Areas (SPA) and Special Areas of Conservation (SACs), funded through the developer levy.
The Solent coast stretches from Hurst Castle (near Lymington) to West Wittering and includes the northern shore of the Isle of Wight. It is internationally important for its wildlife, with 90,000 waders and over 10 per cent of the global population of Brent Geese. Many of these birds travel thousands of miles to over-winter on the Solent.
All of the information can be found on the Solent Recreation Mitigation Partnership's website.
Whilst applicants may propose alternative measures to mitigate the direct impact of their development on the Solent SPA, the simplest way of mitigating will be through making a financial contribution in line with the Charging Schedule set out below.
The current payment schedule for new residential development determined on or after 1 April 2024:
- £465 for each 1 bedroom property
- £671 for each 2 bedroom property
- £875 for each 3 bedroom property
