New Forest Start Up Support privacy notice
New Forest District Council (NFDC) is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy.
The New Forest 'Start Up Support' is an NFDC initiative to encourage the district's residents to start up new enterprises and provide with them with expert support to start and grow the business. The campaign will initially run until 30 June 2023 and will culminate in a New Forest 'Pitch Event' for start-up businesses to pitch their idea to a panel of industry experts.
The New Forest Start Up Support is aimed at improving the survival and growth of new businesses through 1:1 mentoring support and advice.
For the purpose of the UK General Data Protection Regulation ('UK GDPR'), the Data Controller is New Forest District Council, Appletree Court, Beaulieu Road, Lyndhurst, Hampshire SO43 7PA (data.protection@nfdc.gov.uk).
When you contact New Forest District Council and/or The Incuhive Group Ltd (the contractor engaged to deliver the mentoring, advice and pitch event on behalf of NFDC), we will ask you for certain personal information in order to be able respond to your enquiry/ongoing support needs and to ensure your businesses is eligible for support. Some of this information will need to be recorded and stored on our systems and shared with the organisations or individuals involved in the delivery of the support.

1. What kind of personal data do we process
Individuals who wish to benefit from New Forest Start Up Support and participate in the New Forest Pitch Event will be required to provide information relating to their business; however it will also involve the processing of some personal data.
This information will include:
- name and contact details
- business name and contact details
- business size & type (sole-trader, Ltd company etc)
- opinions as to the value of the support and administration by the delivery contractor
The personal data will not comprise special category or criminal offence data.
2. How we use your data
We will use your data to ensure your business is eligible for support through New Forest Start Up Support, to deliver that support and to administer the New Forest Pitch Event should you wish to participate.
We will also use your data to inform monitoring and evaluation of the initiative and/or data for audit processes as required.
We WILL NOT share your information with any external party for marketing or promotional purposes.
3. How we store your data
The information we collect is recorded and then stored on secure servers.
It will also be retained for 6 years from the end of the contractual period which is 30 June 2023.
Information we may collect from you whilst you are using our web services:
When someone visits our website, we use a third-party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard Internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.
We may have access to geolocation data as indicated by your IP address. We collect and process IP addresses of all devices where some of our services are made available on such as our live chat. Collecting and processing your geo-location data refers to mobile devices as well as computers.
For the same reason, we may obtain information about your general Internet usage by using a cookie file which is stored on the hard drive of your computer. They help us to improve our site and to deliver a better and more personalised service. To find out more about cookies.
4. Why we process your data
We need to process your data in order to provide you with the services that you are requesting and to enable NFDC to deliver New Forest Start Up Support.
Examples of these might include:
- If you have contacted us or our contractor in relation to New Forest Start Up Support and a reply to your query has been requested; your information is needed to enable us to follow this through.
- To process your application to participate in the New Forest Pitch Event; your information is needed to enable us to follow this through.
- To deliver the New Forest Start Up Support that you have requested and are eligible for.
- If you wish to receive the Economic Development Service eNewsletter we need your contact details to add you to the relevant mailing list.
5. When and why we share your information
Internally
Sometimes, in order to process your enquiry we need to share the information that you give us with other departments within NFDC (for example Finance and Licencing). Some examples of how and why we share your data in relation to New Forest Start Up Support are:
- If you enrol on New Forest Start Up Support including the Pitch Event, we may need to share your details with other Council services that assist in the production of monitoring reports and information.
- If you decide, after enrolling on the New Forest Start Up Support or the Pitch Event, that you wish to know about other businesses support initiatives or services, we may need to share your details with the relevant service department, such as Business Rates and Licensing & Regulation. We will ask your permission before doing this, as without sharing information we may not be able to provide the help you require.
Below is a list of the most common teams or departments within NFDC that we share information with; this is not an exhaustive list, and information may need to be shared with other teams or services within NFDC (that are not listed below) in order to process your enquiry.

Externally
NFDC has engaged the services of a contractor (The Incuhive Group Ltd) to deliver this project.
The Incuhive Group Ltd is contracted by NFDC to provide New Forest Start Up Support and the Pitch Event on our behalf and directly to you. This service provider is known as a Data Processor and NFDC has an appropriate data processing agreement with this data processor in place to ensure that they look after your personal information and only use it for the delivery of the New Forest Start Up Support and the Pitch Event:

6. What are the legal grounds for processing your information
a) With your consent.
If you wish to withdraw this consent you can do so by contacting us at the above address or on businesssupport@nfdc.gov.uk. However, if you withdraw your consent, you will not be able to benefit from the New Forest Start Up Support and/or the Pitch Event.
