Coastline amenity improvement works
Beach shelter renovation project
We are working on two shelters at a time, and each will be receiving a tailored improvement approach whereby some will receive a more comprehensive upgrade than others.
The brick shelters require more substantial work, to ensure they remain a lasting feature of our coastal landscape. We have carried out a complete roof replacement on one shelter and all require some level of brickwork maintenance.
These construction works will be intermittent as the lime mortar and concrete need specific weather conditions, dry and above an optimum temperature, to ensure they set correctly. In the meantime, the contractors will commence the works on the smaller wooden shelters.
We have also recently replaced the lighting bollards on Milford on Sea promenade to improve safety for users during the darker evenings.
Once the shelter structural works are completed, we hope to add complementary features to them to enhance visitor's experiences. This may include information boards celebrating prominent local features and built in homes for our local wildlife.
We would like to collect as many thoughts and opinions on this project as possible, as we hope to improve the overall user experiences once the works are complete.
Visitors will also notice our annual litter reduction campaign, Crabby. For more information visit Coastal Crabby
Project update, Monday 5 August 2024
Due to unexpected issues we have had to reinstate the fencing around the beach shelter to the rear of the kiosk off Hurst Road Car Park and close the area to the public. We apologise for the continued inconvenience and will reopen the site once it is safe to do so.
