First phase residents to start receiving wheelie bins this spring
18 February 2025
From Monday 17 February, we are writing to residents in Brockenhurst, New Milton, Lymington, and surrounding areas about their new waste collections which will start in June 2025.
These residents are in the phase 1 area for our new waste and recycling service which is being rolled out in 3 area phases, starting this summer.
Over the next couple of weeks, residents in the phase 1 area will receive the letter, and a leaflet, with information on how new waste collections will work for their household, key dates, and support for eligible households.
Residents can also sign up to receive regular email updates, with specific information about their phase area, from the council at newforest.gov.uk/WasteEmails
Cllr Geoffrey Blunden, portfolio holder for environment and sustainability, said: "The information we're sending to residents will help households prepare for the transition, with key dates, guidance, and details on how to access support, if needed. We encourage residents to read through the letters and leaflets carefully and sign up for email updates on our website to stay informed throughout the roll out."
From June 2025, we will collect recycling and general waste using wheelie bins from phase 1 residents. There will also be a new weekly food waste collection, using food waste caddies.
Bins and food waste caddies will be delivered to phase 1 residents between 14 April and 6 June 2025.
Residents will not need to be at home for the delivery of the bins and food waste caddies as they will be left outside their property. Bins and food waste caddies will be delivered by different vehicles at different times.
We are asking that residents don't use the bins and food waste caddies until the new waste collections are due to start in June 2025, and to continue using the current waste collection service until this time.
We will tell residents their start date by post a few weeks before their new waste collections start.

Once sent to residents, copies of the leaflets will be added to our website.
We have assessed properties and some which are unsuitable for wheelie bins, will use sacks or communal bins instead. The letter sent to Phase 1 residents in February will confirm which waste containers the household will use.
Residents can find out which phase they are in and which waste containers they will use for new waste collections at https://newforest.gov.uk/findmyphase
New waste collections start for residents in the phase 2 area from October 2025, and for residents in the phase 3 area from March 2026. The council will write to residents in phase 2 and phase 3 areas nearer to their start date. All residents will receive a leaflet with their Council Tax bills in March 2025, summarising how new waste collections will be introduced across the district.
The new waste collection service will be introduced in phases with different areas starting at different times. Each phase area will have waste collections operating from one of the council's 3 depots in Lymington, Ringwood or Hardley:
- phase 1 area starts from June 2025
- phase 2 area starts from October 2025
- phase 3 area starts from March 2026
The collections for recycling and general waste will take place on alternate weeks. This means general waste will be collected one week and recycling the next week.
Glass collections will still be every 4 weeks, using the black glass collection box.
