High praise for our update emails

9 December 2024

Residents in the New Forest have rated our update emails highly in an annual survey.

In November, 937 residents provided feedback on the emails, marking the highest response rate the district council has ever received for this annual survey.

Every year, we ask subscribers to rate the emails out of 10 in three categories: usefulness, ease of understanding, and relevance.

This year, over 50% of respondents rated the emails as 10/10 in all three categories. The overall average scores were 8.95 for usefulness, 9.20 for ease of understanding, and 8.86 for containing relevant information. These scores follow the consistent pattern of high ratings each year since 2020 from residents subscribed to our update emails.

Initiated during the pandemic, these regular emails were designed to keep residents informed about health restrictions and council support. Over time, the emails have evolved to cover more updates about what we are doing, support and help available to residents, and useful topics from partner organisations such as Hampshire County Council, the NHS, and local emergency services.

For the first time, the survey this year asked how else people hear about news and updates from us. Many residents indicated that they hear about council news through our other channels, including on social media, in letters, on posters / leaflets, and from the council's Hometalk magazine. Some respondents indicated that these emails were the only way they heard updates from us.

Over 17,000 residents are signed up to receive update emails from us.

The 2024 survey showed that most email subscribers live in the district (85%), people who work in the district, or who visit the area can also sign up to receive the emails.

People can sign up to receive these emails from us at any time on the council's website at www.newforest.gov.uk/emails. Residents just need an email address to sign up, and can unsubscribe at any time if they change their mind.
