Commemorating Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day
11 November 2024
Our staff and councillors marked Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day across the district.
On Monday 11 November, our councillors and staff marked Armistice Day by taking part in the national two-minute silence, and wreath-laying ceremony at Appletree Court in Lyndhurst.
The ceremony included a wreath laying by Cllr David Hawkins, Chairman of the Council, and Cllr Jill Cleary, Leader of the Council. They were also joined by Kate Ryan, Chief Executive, and staff who are veterans of the Armed Forces.
Cllr David Hawkins, Chairman of the Council, said: "It's incredibly important that we continue to recognise those who fought for our country in the two world wars and have served our country ever since. We greatly value our ties with our local armed forces community, whose dedication continues to inspire us."
On Sunday 10 November, Cllr David Hawkins, Chairman of the Council, attended New Milton's Remembrance Service and laid a wreath with the Council's Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Alvin Reid. The Chairman also attended the commemorations at Keyhaven at 2pm as well as Milford-On-Sea at 3pm.
Cllr John Sleep, Vice Chairman of the Council, attended Totton and Eling Town Council's Remembrance Parade, which took place at Totton War Memorial.
Cllr Jill Cleary, Leader of the Council, attended Lyndhurst's Remembrance Service at St. Michael and All Angels Church, followed by the Parade along the High Street to the War Memorial at Bolton's Bench.
