Cemetery locations

Essential path maintenance works in Eling Cemetery. Some paths will be temporarily closed for access. Access to graves and cremated remains plots will not be disrupted, but alternative, temporary routes may be required. We hope to cause minimal inconvenience, but apologise for the temporary disruption.

Cemetery Memorial Stability Inspection. For reasons of safety, and in line with our policy, memorials in our cemeteries are to be inspected and tested for stability. Each memorial is carefully assessed by a visual and simple hand test to check for movement. Memorials in a dangerous, unsafe condition may be supported or laid flat on top of the grave space. Do not tamper with memorials which have been made safe.

We maintain eight cemeteries within the New Forest. We are also responsible for the maintenance of a number of closed churchyards.

Our cemeteries

Our cemeteries are open for burial and cremated remains interments. We provide various interment options, including more naturalised woodland sections, memorial garden for ashes interments, as well as the more traditional lawn and kerbed grave sections, and cremated remains plots. Some of our cemeteries do not provide all interment options.

Closed churchyards

Closed churchyards are burial sites that have been closed by an Order in Council under the Burial Act 1953 because there is no space left to dig a new interment grave or cremated remains plot.

However, there may still be space for cremated remains in family plots which are used for other members of the family.

Further cremated remains interments within existing plots may be possible. All requests need to be organised through the relevant episcopal body. These are not organised though us.

With closed churchyards, the responsibility for maintenance may be transferred to the relevant local authority. The closed churchyards transferred to us are listed below.
