Community groups awarded funding

7 February 2024

We have agreed to award over a quarter of a million pounds in grants to local groups.

At our Cabinet meeting on Wednesday 7 February, it was announced that 29 organisations would benefit from this year's community grant funding.

The community grant awards, totalling £130,000 in revenue grants and £96,040 in capital grants, have been allocated along with community transport grants totalling £51,100.

The grant funding will go to a wide range of organisations from across the district who support the most vulnerable residents and communities in the New Forest district. This includes organisations such as Honeypot Childrens Charity, New Forest Basics Bank, Forest Forge Theatre Company, and New Forest Disability Information Services.

Cllr Dan Poole, portfolio holder for community safety and wellbeing, said: "We distribute grants as part of our aim to support communities and do so through the people and organisations who are best placed to do it."

"We're pleased to support great work of community groups across the New Forest. The grants will help to ensure residents have access to support and improved local community facilities in their area."

Kelly Price, Project Leader at Youth and Families Matter (YFM), one of the groups who will receive a grant, said: "We are delighted that New Forest District Council has awarded YFM with a community grant, this is hugely helpful to our charity as we strive to support people in Totton who are struggling. Finding funding for grassroots charity work is an uphill battle and we're very grateful that the council values the impact YFM is having locally. We're also appreciative of the support and connections our team have within NFDC as we strive to tackle tough issues including housing and hardship."
