Latest affordable housing completed in Totton

24 January 2024

Our latest social housing development has completed in Totton.

The apartment block, containing 12 flats, has transformed the site of the former Testwood Social Club on Salisbury Road.

The new homes meet the government's proposed Future Homes Standard. By 2025, homes will be required to produce 75-80% lower carbon emissions compared to current levels. Key features at Penman House include air source heat pumps for heating, triple glazing, increased insulation, and electric vehicle charging points.

Cllr Steve Davies, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Homelessness, said: "I am incredibly proud of Penman House. Building to the proposed Future Homes Standard shows what the future looks like today, and how meeting that standard can make the homes even more affordable."

The scheme, called Penman House, has been named after Cllr Neville Penman who first identified the site as an opportunity for affordable housing when the Testwood Social Club closed five years ago.

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally open the homes, Cllr Neville Penman said: "I was sad to see the closure of Testwood Social Club which was a popular and a well-known landmark in Totton for so many years, but I am delighted to see the good use that the land has been put to. The 12 beautiful homes are comfortable, spacious, and affordable, and will give new starts for families and people on the housing register."

The rented affordable council housing will be allocated to people on our Homesearch housing register with new residents due to move in from as early as next month.
