Welcome to New Forest Homesearch which is the waiting list and allocation scheme for Council and Housing Association housing in the New Forest. New Forest District Council has recently approved an updated Homesearch allocation scheme and a new tenancy strategy.

The updated Homesearch policy gives the Council greater local control over who is eligible to appear on the housing waiting list. Key changes to the scheme include removing applicants who have no connection to the New Forest and removing those who are considered unsuitable to be a tenant due to anti-social behaviour. Changes to the Homesearch scheme are now being brought into effect.

The new tenancy strategy sets out the Council's approach to what type of tenancies are offered to housing applicants. New tenants will be offered a fixed-term tenancy (normally for a period of five years) rather than a lifetime tenancy, ensuring that the council can make best use of available housing stock by tackling under-occupation and by encouraging tenants to explore other housing options if they have the resources to do so.

Elderly and vulnerable people and existing tenants will retain their lifetime security of tenure.

Further information can be found by downloading a copy of the Tenancy Strategy here PDF Document and the Homesearch 2 Allocation Scheme PDF Document

If you have any questions about the new policies please email the Homesearch team at homesearch@nfdc.gov.uk
