Essential Maintenance & Refurbishment work
Latest update on the refurbishment project - Dated 24 September 2014
The pools will reopen for public swimming on Saturday 15 November and Swim Academy will start week beginning Monday 17 November. We have been working with the contractors to get the pools open for swimmers as soon as possible and the tiling of both the pools and poolside area is almost complete. Once this is done, the pools need three weeks to dry before water filling and heating can start - this will take another two weeks. New pool windows are also being fitted at the moment and these will improve our energy efficiency considerably.
Wet Changing Village
The wet change has been painted throughout and is looking very smart. New hairdryers have been installed and additional benches have been added to the accessible toilets - this will increase changing areas and ease congestion at busy times. The toilets and shower areas are going through a programme of deep cleaning and we have also scheduled a minor refurbishment to Reflection, our sauna and steam area, ready for the pool re-opening.
New Weights Room
The relocated Weights Room, on the ground floor of the building, is now in full use and feedback on the new equipment is very positive. The new staircase linking The Gym to the Weights Room is nearly ready for opening, which will enable easier access from the gym floor. New signage has been ordered and we still have a few finishing touches but we are really pleased with how it is all looking. Users are reminded to put away weights after use and keep the room clear and safe for fellow users.
New Spin Studio
The new Spin Studio is now located upstairs within the main gym area. It is not only used for classes but can also be accessed any time the gym is open, to complement your workout. When attending spin classes please use the door at the top of the back staircase.
- New lighting enhances the ambience of the class and can be adjusted to a variety of different sequences
- A new projector and DVD player allows you to go for a virtual spin to the top of Mont Ventoux or the Col du Galibier
- A water cooler is available in the room for your convenience
- Window frosting is due to be fitted on Tuesday 30 September to decorate the large windows and offer a degree of privacy
- A new air conditioning unit has been installed and we expect the new air extractor units will also be fitted by the end of September
- ...and finally the delivery date for the brand new spin bikes is Friday 26 September
Studio 1 is now our main aerobic studio. The majority of the group fitness programme will take place in this room. There is a new water cooler in the corridor for your convenience and seating will be installed to use whilst you wait for your class or your children whilst they are attending their club sessions.
New dimmer switches for the lights have been fitted to aid the relaxation and set the mood in our mind body classes.
The new customer access equipment store is currently being constructed which will allow you to collect your own hand weights, etc.
Brand new Life Fitness equipment has now been installed in our gym which is looking fantastic. For the majority of our customers, the transition to the new equipment has gone really well. If however, any of you are uncertain about using the new equipment or LF Connect (Smartphone technology) for your programmes and workouts, please talk to one of the Fitness Instructors. Alternatively, you can book onto a free mini induction to the new equipment.
There are still minor works ongoing in the gym area including the installation of new air handling units; this is expected to be completed by the end of September.
