The Secret Life of New Forest District Council

#OurDay 2018 We have had The Secret Life of Four Year Olds, and The Secret Life of the Zoo, now comes The Secret Life of New Forest District Council. On Tuesday 20 November 2018, the council will take part in the #OurDay tweetathon.

#Ourday sees thousands of organisations across the UK tweeting using the hashtag #OurDay, to give the public a chance to learn more about the hundreds of different jobs that councils do every day that may have an impact on their lives, from collecting the rubbish and sweeping the streets, to caring for the most vulnerable.

We are taking part in #OurDay for the fourth year. Last year saw a focus on the people behind the council's services: featuring, amongst others, #OurDan from housing, #OurChrista who is responsible for taxi and pub licensing, and #OurLuke who helps keep our streets clean.

This year, residents will be given an insight into a day in the life of NFDC, looking at the people providing council services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, starting in the early hours with the CCTV monitoring team and working through the day (and night) with snapshots of life at the council.

By taking part, we hopes to increase residents' awareness of the wide range of services available to them, and their understanding of what their council tax pays for.

Last year nearly 14,000 contributors from across the public sector posted 45,083 tweets, reaching more than 31 million people. #OurDay trended at number one on Twitter for most of the day.

#OurDay is organised by the Local Government Association (LGA), which represents councils in England and Wales.

The LGA is encouraging as many councillors and local authority staff as possible to take a couple of minutes out of their day to tell the world what they're up to as part of the live #OurDay tweetathon, by using the hashtag.
