What do we do with your £168.36 Council Tax per year?

The council tax you pay helps cover the cost of services you probably know about, like collecting your rubbish, street cleaning, and planning. But did you know your £168.36 a year, or around £3.24 a week, also contributes towards providing housing advice and homelessness prevention, public toilets, support for local businesses, CCTV in towns and villages, cemeteries, caring for the coastline, grass cutting, grants to local community groups, air quality monitoring, elections and democracy services, a dog warden, food hygiene, tree maintenance, community and leisure services, and pest control.

Our services touch the lives of all 176,462 residents of the New Forest district. From the electoral registration form you receive through the post, to the food hygiene rating of your high street coffee shop, the taxi licensed to take you safely home, the coastline we care for, the recycling we collect, and much more.

These services are funded in a number of ways - by the council tax you pay, services we charge for, business rates we collect, interest we receive, and grants from government.
