Chairman's adventurous approach to fundraising

Councillor Christine Ward has been energetically raising funds for two local charities supporting young people in the New Forest since she became Chairman of New Forest District Council in May this year. On Sunday 27 August she abseiled from the top of the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth in aid of her chosen charities First Opportunities and It's Your Choice. She is planning a sky dive later in the Autumn to raise more cash for her good causes.

Our Chairman also played host to 26 mayors and chairmen of neighbouring local authorities and their guests at the annual Civic Day on 7 September. The event, part of the Chairman's civic duties, is an opportunity for the council's Chairman to showcase the attractions and successes of the district. The group visited locations including Bucklers Hard and Setley Ridge Vineyard.

First Opportunities is an independent charity providing therapeutic play and pre-school education for babies and young children (aged 0 to 5 years) with additional needs. They have been helping children and their families since 1974.

Founded in 1987, It's Your Choice is a youth charity which provides information, advice, guidance and counselling to young people, aged 12-25, who live in and around the New Forest.
